Spicy Blackfin Tuna Rice Crisps

This is a twist on one of my absolute favorite sushi recipes; the Spicy Tuna Roll. I’ve been making variations of this recipe for the past several years and not just with Blackfin Tuna! I’ve used other species like Mutton Snapper and Yellow Jack, too!

Spicy Blackfin Tuna Rice Crisps

The idea for this recipe popped into my head when I noticed I had some leftover Spring Roll wrappers from my Florida Spiny Lobster Spring Rolls recipe I did awhile back. I also had a good amount of Blackfin Tuna meat and I wanted to make some new recipes. I imagine this dish being served at a big gathering, although these particular ones I just split between my girlfriend and I!

How I Got This Blackfin Tuna

I got the fish for this recipe a few weeks ago when I was out on my kayak off of Dania Beach. I had originally gone out to go spearfishing and after shooting one fish, my buddy came and met up with me on his Jet Ski. He wanted to go out a little deeper and do some jigging for Blackfin Tuna.

We paddled out to about 400 feet and since I didn’t have any fishing stuff on my kayak, he let me borrow one of his rods. After about 45 minutes of jigging, I finally hooked up on the target species. We had started to drift north a good ways so once I landed the fish I gave my buddy his rod back and started paddling back in. It took over an hour to get back to where I launched, but it was well worth it!

Spicy Blackfin Tuna Rice Crisps

Ingredients

For The Spicy Blackfin Tuna

  • 6 oz Blackfin Tuna (or any other tuna)
  • 2 tsp Sriracha
  • 1 tsp Soy Sauce
  • ½ tsp White Sugar
  • ½ tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 Green Onion (finely chopped)

Additional Ingredients

  • 2 Spring Roll Wrappers (quartered)
  • Avocado Oil
  • 1 Avocado (thin sliced)
  • 1 Jalapeño (thin sliced)
  • Eel Sauce

Instructions 

For The Spicy Blackfin Tuna

  • Finely chop your tuna into small pieces. It helps to cut into strips first. Add into your large bowl.
    6 oz Blackfin Tuna
  • Finely chop your green onion. Add into your large bowl.
    1 Green Onion
  • Add in your sriracha, soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil.
    2 tsp Sriracha
    1 tsp Soy Sauce
    ½ tsp White Sugar
    ½ tsp Sesame Oil
  • Mix thoroughly and set in the refrigerator to keep cool.

For The Rice Crisps

  • Cut your spring roll wrapper into 4 even pieces. It may help to fold them.
    2 Spring Roll Wrappers
  • Heat avocado oil in your small pan to 375 °F. You will need about a ½ inch of oil.

  • Add in your spring roll wrappers one at a time and fry just until they puff up. It should only take a few seconds!
  • Once you are done, remove from the pan and set aside.

Assembling The Spicy Blackfin Tuna Crisps

  • Thin slice your Jalapeño and Avocado.
    1 Avocado
    1 Jalapeño
  • Place your 8 rice crisps on a serving platter.
  • Place 2 avocado slices on each one.
  • Evenly spoon your Spicy Blackfin Tuna on each crisp.
  • Garnish each with Jalapeño slice and drizzle with Eel Sauce!

  • Serve and enjoy!
