Hogfish Tacos

Fish tacos are something that’s considered a staple in the spearfishing community. They’re easy to put together, taste great, and it’s honestly pretty hard to mess them up. They’re also a great way to serve your fresh catch to a large crowd. It’s actually been awhile since I’ve made fish tacos, but since it was Cinco De Mayo, I figured why not?

Because Hogfish have such a white and mild meat, they really take on the flavor of what you season them with. For these fish tacos, I decided to go with a blackening seasoning that I had in the pantry, but you can use whatever you would like! Kinder’s also makes a really good Habanero Pineapple seasoning that I’ve been using lately that would go great on these!

How I Got This Fish

I got this particular Hogfish when I was spearfishing off Dania Beach on my kayak. I had originally gone out for the opening of Black Grouper season, but I was unsuccessful in finding any! The nice part about May 1st here in South Florida, is that both Grouper and Hogfish season open!

Hogfish are usually easier to find here than Grouper, so much so that I actually came across a few other legal ones before I settled on taking this one. It had been awhile since I had gotten a Hogfish, last summer was probably the last time I brought one home, so I wanted to make some special recipes.
